Teams of six people throw darts for one hour to achieve the highest score. Serious darts teams are in it for the hot competition, while all sorts of other organisations, such as churches, businesses, clubs and pubs raise teams just for a fun evening out. Alan Bray

Welcome to the web site of the Rotary Club of Cuckfield & Lindfield. Alan Bray is the 29th President of the Club and the first from Cuckfield to hold this honour.

The Rotary Club of Cuckfield & Lindfield is a registered charity with membership drawn from the local community. Rotary International is a network of Clubs throughout the world which has the aim of making a real difference to the lives of others.

In my year as President we plan to hold a number of fund-raising events for the benefit of local charities and needy individuals as well as participating in international aid projects. Our members will also continue to provide a range of support services in the community such as transport for the elderly, literacy support at a local school and providing stewards for a number of local events.

It will be a busy year but we aim to enjoy ourselves as well with a number of social events and a speaker programme at our regular weekly meetings. Rotary membership is a whole lot of fun. It also provides an enormous sense of achievement in helping the local community and other communities around the world. Right now we are looking for more members. If you want to give something back and enjoy helping others, join us and make a world of difference.

Sponsored Darts Marathon

This popular and well established event was concluded in June 2012 for the fourteenth consecutive year – in excess of £100,000 has been raised by the Cuckfield & Lindfield Club over this period through this competition for local and other charities. The Club’s experience has indicated that the demand for funding charities continues to reach ever increasing financial heights – locally, nationally and internationally.

The winners

Pictured above: the winning team in 2010 from The Crown at Newick, with a total score of 32,000 points.
Horsted Keynes Parish Ladies won the Ladies' competition, Ansty Sports & Social Club won the Mixed team competition and Mid-Sussex Spread Eagles achieved the highest sponsorship amount (£812)

For this local event this year, the Club has supported St. Peter & St. James Hospice North Chailey, and Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice near Arundel, together with other charities supported by Rotary.

At the entertaining and very successful Presentation Evening, arranged with Andy and Linda Jones and held at the Horsted Club Horsted Keynes, representatives from the two hospices were presented with a cheque for £5,500 each. The Club made a profit of around £15,000 for their charities together with just over £2,000 raised by some event participants for their own charities.

What’s it all about? Teams of six players – 36 teams this year - the largest number the Club had ever achieved – Gentlemen or Ladies, or Mixed (with at least three ladies), throw their darts for a period of one hour. Members of the team may only throw three darts (one at a time) and the team must throw in strict rotation. Participants much enjoy the event – their attempts are fun evenings! There are prizes of £100 for the Best Ladies, Best Mens and Best Mixed Team scores and, also, for the Highest Team Sponsorship. Sponsorship for the charities mentioned above was obtained, using the Club’s specially prepared form which allows for Gift Aid. Team members (or others) obtained the sponsorship monies based on, say, a cash amount per 1,000 points scored or a straightforward donation.

Attended by over 100 event participants, guests and Club members and wives, the prizes for 2012 were presented at the annual Presentation Evening and the winners were;
Ladies: The Crown Inn, Newick. Sponsored by: Derek Hopkins, Past President of the Club
Gentlemen: The Crown Inn, Newick. Sponsored by: Bakers Timber Buildings, Bolney Grange Business Park
Mixed: Ansty Sports & Social Club. Sponsored by: Savills, Estate Agents, Perrymount Road, Haywards Heath
Highest Sponsorship: Brooks Braithwaite (Sussex) Ltd, Haywards Heath. Sponsored by: Bentleys, Chartered Certified Accountants, South Road, Haywards Heath
