 | A party of 18 members with wives visited the Rotary Club of
Karlstadt-Arnstein during the last week in September. This was the fourth
away
trip to see our German friends since the link was inaugurated in
1998.Some of the group flew out to Frankfurt on the
Friday afternoon,
whilst others had taken a longer spell of three days to make the journey by
road, stopping overnight en route at Trier and Dawn in
Rheinland-Pfalz for some
extended sightseeing and relaxation. Similar plans for a leisurely drive home
with various points of call had been planned. After
checking in with our
German hosts, the main event on Friday evening was a welcome supper in the
homes of other Club members. Unfortunately those flying in were held up in a
traffic jam for hours by a major accident on the Autobahn and didn't
make it
for supper until getting on for midnight. |

the old town of Würzburg. The highlight was a guided tour of the early
18th
century Residenz (left), the baroque masterpiece of Balthazar
Neumann. The afternoon programme included a reception at the
Rathaus,
the Karlstadt town hall (right). | |
