Visit of Karlstadt-Arnstein

A party of 15 members of the Rotary Club of Karlstadt-Arnstein and wives spent the Bank Holiday weekend
from 28 April 2006 as guests of the Cuckfield & Lindfield club.

On Friday evening they travelled on the Bluebell Line train from Sheffield Park to Kingscote and back, enjoying a fish & chip supper en route. On Saturday morning everyone went on a historic tour of Lewes, with visits to the Castle, the Barbican Museum and Anne of Cleves' House, followed by lunch at the King's Head. A welcome dinner was the feature of Saturday evening at Rowfant House. President Paul Harris welcomed our German guests and President Roland Metz responded, helped in translation by Angela von Geldern.

Trevor Clapp led an almost record turnout of 35 for the President's Walk on Sunday morning and then lunch was taken at The Farmers in Scaynes Hill. The Karlstadt-Arnstein visitors and their hosts were entertained to supper that evening in the homes of other Cuckfield & Lindfield members and wives. A planned walk in Wakehurst Park on Monday morning had to be abandoned because of rain and instead, hosts entertained their weekend guests with visits to other local attractions.

Golf day winners

In June 2006 the Club ran its fourth charity golf day at the Haywards Heath Golf Club which attracted 22 team entries for prizes donated by local businesses Orange Square and Mansell McTaggart. The day raised more than £2,000 for the St Peter & St James Hospice and other Rotary charities. More records were broken in the Club's Annual Darts Marathon 2006. 34 teams participated, raising £12,000 for local charities, a substantial increase on previous years. The men's team from the Jolly Tanners scored an incredible 35,483 to win the all-time highest score trophy, as well as the class prize.

The Royal British Legion Ardingly Ladies won their class with a score of 22,344, and the mixed class was won by Ansty Sports & Social Club. The highest amount of sponsorship was £1,558, raised by Jonathan Toomer’s B team. They played at the Sloop, which won the new trophy for the venue with the highest amount of sponsorship, totalling £1,885.

Darts Prizewinners 2006

The winners were presented with framed certificates and prizes of £100 at a presentation evening and buffet put on by the Royal British Legion Club at Ardingly. The prize winners very kindly donated their prize money to the charity fund. Also represented were the four main charities which received substantial donations from the proceeds of the event.
