New President installed

Alex Mackenzie takes over

President Paul Harris hands over the chain of office to incoming President Alex Mackenzie at the meeting on 27 June 2006

 

Alex Mackenzie of Haywards Heath became President from 1 July 2006

Until his retirement in 2000, Alex Mackenzie's working life was in the road maintenance industry, principally with Colas Ltd, a subsidiary of Shell UK – until 1996 when it was sold to the French Group, Colas. He was Chief Executive for the last 15 years.

Alex's hobbies are golf (trying hard now to improve his handicap to 20), sailing a Sadler 32 cruiser out of Chichester, and travelling with his family. Alex is married to Sally and recently become a proud grandfather for the second time. He joined the Rotary Club of Cuckfield & Lindfield in 2000.

Games Evening at Birchen House

Members deserted the Bent Arms on the third Tuesday in July to enjoy a Games evening at Birchen House hosted by Cameron Sharp who also provided a succulent barbecue supper. Petanque, croquet and bagatelle were among the pursuits on offer. The winning team for something or other are pictured (right).

Annual Golf Match

James Beacon surrenders the trophy

The annual challenge golf match with the Rotary Club of Haywards Heath was held at Haywards Heath Golf Club on 26 October 2007.

This time the trophy returned to its rightful owners and the picture shows the losing club's Vice-President James Beacon doing the gentlemanly thing.

Almost 100 members and friends joined the party at Wivelsfield Village Hall on Friday 1 December 2006 to enjoy another first in the Club's fund-raising stakes. Proceeds of the evening exceeded £1500 to add to the charity coffers.

A splendid supper came courtesy of Cameron Sharp and Brian Davey. The whole show was masterminded by Alan Bray and his team.

Youth Speaks 2007

John Simpson opens the Competition
The first round of this popular competion at Ardingly College on 18 January 2007 was organised for District 1250 by Cuckfield & Lindfield and master-minded by John Simpson (left), Chairman of Youth Activities Committee.

Ten teams from local schools took part, five in the Intermediate section (ages 11-13) and five in the Senior section (14-17). The judging panel, chaired by John Davey, declared the winners to be Great Walstead School and Warden Park School respectively.
Pictured (right) are Mid-Sussex District Council Chairman Edward King – who presented the prizes – with the members of the winning teams, who now go on to compete in the District final at Lancing College on 5 February.
