Casino Evening

Following the success of the first Casino evening a year earlier, Barry Reed's Fund-raising Committee organised another Casino Fun Evening which was held in the Scaynes Hill Village Hall on 20 October. About 90 members and friends enjoyed supper prepared by Sally and Alex Mackenzie and then took to the roulette and blackjack tables. About £1000 was raised for the Club's charity funds.

A right pair ...Which one is the real Mrs Butcher?Mike Kirk looks the part

Then on 30 October Brian Davey and his team somehow turned the Ladies' Evening into a Tramps' Supper. Some members needed little effort to appear as proper tramps ...

Supper borne triumphantly round the assembled throng

.... but others took advantage of the proximity of Hallowe'en to arrive by broomstick. After the suckling pig – cooked to a turn by Brian and his assistants – there was a magic performance on stage by the guest speaker.

Past Presidents' Lunch

The Past Presidents

The 2007 Past Presidents' Lunch was held on Sunday 25 November at The Old School Cuckfield. All 19 Past Presidents who are still members of the Club were there with their ladies. This annual fixture took place for the first time four years ago, but this was the first occasion there was a full turnout. Usually at least somebody is on holiday, but not this time.

Santa's in there somewhere

Father Christmas at Country Gardens, Handcross (on the A23, half a mile north of the Warninglid junction) by courtesy of the Rotary Club of Cuckfield & Lindfield. Every Saturday and Sunday throughout December until Christmas a Rotarian Santa is on duty from 11am to 4pm, accompanied by a Rotarian elf or clown.

Each member has had to undergo training, which included memorising the names of the eight original reindeer. They also have to know the latest in kids' gismos & movies, for ages under three to over six – a challenging task indeed, but helpful in deciding present for grandkids. In return, Country Gardens are giving up a substantial share of the proceeds to charities supported by Rotary. This Christmas the main donation will be to the Sussex Air Ambulance.

Cuckfield Christmas Tree

The Club was again allocated a tree at the Cuckfield Christmas Tree Festival. Chris Bosker and David Wilson made decorations and the tree was on show at Cuckfield church on the weekend of 8/9 December 2007.
